Starbucks campaign window illustration

This job came from out of the blue. I was busy working on illustration for a Place Plan, working with a local theatre arts community when…my phone rang. It was an actual call. Rakish from We The Seeds agency was calling to ask me if I wanted to be a part of this project.

Months ago I had seen a gorgeous window illustration on the Edinburgh Bookshop window and saw that We The Seeds were involved. I apologise to the illustrator from the depths of my heart as I would love to give you credit for that work. Very stupidly, I forgot to note down their name. Anyway, I took a chance and contacted We The Seeds directly, asking if I could be considered for window illustration work in the area.

Fast forward to two weeks ago and they were calling me. Hurray! You never know how these things are going to land when you throw them out there. The deadline for the work was tiiiiiiiiight. Design, edits, execution all under two weeks, which is very quick turn around. I just happened to have that weekend free (so rare!) so was able to squeeze the work in between two other deadlines. What can I say. I like living life on the edge.

I have worked with A LOT of people over the years. Some clients can be a bit on the tricky side (example: Can you please do two extra days of work for free) which is unfortunately so common in this line of work. That’s a blog for another time. But THIS time, I have to say, what a dream. The communication was clear, kind, professional, encouraging. I was connected with a group of window artists so share tips, stories, continue the cheerleading. Sometimes this work can feel quite solitary. It was also a great example that PEOPLE NEED PEOPLE. Many of us are freaking out about Ai, and rightly so. It’s starting to come down to where you moral compass is pointing and honouring that direction for decision making.

So, a big hearty Thank you to We The Seeds and Starbucks UK for hiring people to create these gorgeous illustrations. Let’s be in awe of each other. Every single day.
